No tracking
EssCalc uses no analytics tools, no tracking pixels and no advertising. The pages load scripts and fonts only from our own domain and images only from our CDN; our Content Security Policy enforces this in your browser.
We only set cookies that are technically necessary: for signing in, for protection against forged requests and for guest mode.
Like every web server, ours logs requests (see the privacy policy, section on server log files). We do not build user profiles from them.
Your data belongs to you
In your profile you can download all your data as a ZIP file at any time.
You can deactivate your account; it is permanently deleted after 30 days, and until then you can reactivate it. Or you delete it permanently right away.
Operations
We back up the database daily on the server and keep the backups for 14 days. In addition, Hetzner creates daily images of the whole server. A deleted account therefore disappears from all backups at the latest 14 days after its final deletion.
An external monitoring service regularly opens our home page to report outages. It sees no user data.
Where the nutrient data comes from
The nutrient values of many basic foods come from the German Food Code and Nutrient Data Base (Bundeslebensmittelschlüssel, BLS) 4.0 by the Max Rubner-Institut (MRI), Federal Research Institute of Nutrition and Food, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Foods from the BLS in EssCalc: 15,044
Further foods come from Open Food Facts or are added by the community and checked by our moderation.
